Introducing In Kind Direct

Does your charity distribute products to people in need? By ‘products’ we mean toiletries, clothes, office equipment, homeware, or baby items.

Do you pay for them? If so, before you place your next order, check out In Kind Direct.

About In Kind Direct

Launched in 1996, In Kind Direct is a UK-based charity that exists to support organisations that deliver vital support to communities.

Its mission is to ensure that ‘everyone has access to the products they need to keep clean, safe and well’, and it does this by redistributing surplus consumer goods donated by its network of 1,300+ corporate partners to charities, community groups, food banks, and schools in the UK and abroad.

As a result, the charity supports 12,000 charities and impacts the lives of 345,000 disadvantaged people each week.

Everyone wins

The service benefits everyone.

  • It’s an easy and cost-effective way for corporates to make a difference.

  • Saving money on costly supplies enables charities to maximise their resources to help more people.

  • Redistribution prevents waste, which is good for the planet.

Want to benefit?

Here’s what you need to know.

To access the goods, you need to register your charity (for free).

You’ll then be able to order products such as toilet roll, hand wash, cleaning and laundry supplies, period products, baby essentials, clothing, toiletries, household appliances, and toys via their online catalogue.

There’s a small handling fee on each order (which includes delivery).

The small print

On its website, In Kind Direct states that products can be given away to beneficiaries, used in your office/on your premises, or shared with other charitable groups. But they can’t be used for fundraising purposes.

Additional benefits

As a member of In Kind Direct's community, you’ll be eligible for additional savings and benefits from their corporate partners.

For example:

  • Discounts of up to 80% on a range of workplace products from Office Depot.

  • 20% off DSC training courses, conferences, and publications

  • Up to 90% off refurbished photocopier-printers from RICOH

Case studies

Here’s how three of In Kind Direct’s charity partners are benefitting from the

  • Chance Changing Lives, a Cheshire-based community pantry, provides 150 disadvantaged families with food and essential household items once a week.

The organisation relies on In Kind Direct to stock its shelves with toilet rolls, washing-up liquid, laundry items, disinfectant, shampoo, body wash, nappies, baby wipes, and tea bags.

  • Sussex-based charity Forward Facing supports families with children who are living with long-term or life-limiting conditions.

To make their lives a little bit brighter, the charity provides children with toy hampers and their parents with ‘pamper hampers’; both of which include products from In Kind Direct.

  • Quo Vadis Trust provides supported housing for people in Southeast London with mental health needs.

They use toiletries and other household essentials from In Kind Direct to create welcome bags for client’s that move into QVT-supported accommodation.
